Business succession in Austria: external handover becomes the norm

After Germany, now Austria — a market especially close to our hearts. A new study by Creditreform Österreich and CH Consult shows that almost one in two companies in Austria (45%) will need a succession solution by 2030.
Classic family succession can no longer carry this on its own. Already 40% of businesses are planning an external handover — to investors, management or employees. External succession is no longer a stopgap but the normal case. And it is about more than ownership: around 50,000 businesses will come up for handover in the coming years — and with them roughly 700,000 jobs. Hard-won know-how, dependable employers, the very substance of entire regions: every successful handover secures all of this.
This is exactly where we come in: we think in decades rather than quarters, keep local management on board — and, since our XARIS acquisition, are actively present in the Austrian market.
We would be especially glad to hear from:
- Entrepreneurs looking for a succession for their life’s work — and a partner who stays.
- Leaders who would rather keep developing a profitable company than start from scratch.
